Summer St for rent in Berkeley, CA
This is the house that Les Blank lived in from 1987 - 2013. It is furnished and decorated just as he had left it and includes a DVD library of special films that he had collected. and a tremendous cookbook collection. The house is full of character and very comfortable. Features a large double ended slipper clawfoot tub, a nice shower with sunflower head, and oak hardwood floors throughout. The art on the walls is mostly by folk artist Butch Anthony from Seale Alabama and other pieces that Les Blank coveted. There is a downstairs apartment with two guests in it currently which has its own entrance and bathroom. The laundry room downstairs has a washer/dryer that is shared. There is a back room in the house that has been reserved for occasional house guests of Harrod Blank and otherwise is empty and used for Harrod's storage. This room has its own entrance from the deck of the house. The usage of this room may be discussed. The Les Blank memorial bench was created by local artist and subject of one of Les' films, The Maestro, and is very popular and people often sit in it and take pictures. The backyard is literally a small redwood forest and very tranquil. The back deck is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal at sunset. There are deer that pass through almost daily. There is also a Webber for outdoor BBQ. If interested I can send you a link of a walk through video on Vimeo.
