Departmental Overview
UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) at the Tang Center provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, and a variety of health programs for faculty and staff. Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. This position involves analytical studies on a variety of policies, projects, programs and issues in support of a function, program and/or organizational unit, or in research of new or changing systems and programs. Assists in policy and program planning, development and administration; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services regarding general management to department administrators.
Responsibilities include:
I. Provides highly complex analyses across a broad spectrum of programs, policies and initiatives or provides in-depth, complex analyses as a specialist in one policy field (health care policy).
Serves as subject matter expert in developing enterprise-level data sets and data-driven information for all UHS programs and services
Identifies data that informs UHS strategies in population-based work, equity and inclusion, service constructs, service quality, et al;
Provides subject-matter expertise on "data dashboards" for organizational and unit-level reporting; develops this expertise in unit staff
Improves the design of integrated data retrieval, analysis and reporting for decision support by UHS senior leadership. Compiles statistics, prepares trend analyses, and creates predictive modeling in support of functional needs
Analyzes service utilization trends for decision support to the student health insurance plan;
Contextualizes UHS metrics with regard to comparable data, e.g., other UC campuses, other U.S. universities, student health insurance, and national college health benchmarks (NCHA)
Drafts data-based narratives to convey the impact of UHS' services to campus and UC leadership, including Student Affairs, Vice-Chancellor Administration and Finance, Risk Services and related committees
II. Medical and Mental Health Information Management
Supports managers' analyses of peer review and other clinical quality programs
Leads response to strategic data analysis for UHS Directors.
Provides lead expertise in data constructs in support of project management initiatives
Collaborates with intercampus peers to exploit EMR functionality to the full extent possible.
Effectively represent needed functionality for effective data collection, reporting, and analysis to EMR manager and EMR vendor.
Manages patient and client satisfaction surveys and analyses-
Develops and advocates data solutions to system issues, including analyzing and representing the pros and cons of alternative options.
Supports priorities and procedures for improving data quality, reporting, special projects, and links with external data sources
Documents data quality and reporting standards; prepares implementation procedures and transfers operational management to units
III. Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization.
IV. Guides and directs planning which may include senior campus management, faculty, and/or external constituencies.
V. Develops and presents complex proposals and/or business plans on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options.
Required Qualifications
Strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
Strong qualitative and quantitate analytical skills to synthesize quantitative and qualitative information from multiple sources into graphs, tables and others visuals that facilitate explanation to stakeholders
Ability to identify and articulate statistically significant data v. non-significant data
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to collaborate productively with peers.
Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Advanced knowledge of campus-specific computer applications.
Experience with SQL-based software and EMR data management highly preferred
Skilled in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Master's degree in related field preferred.
Training in data collection and analysis techniques; health services and/or social science techniques preferred.
Salary & Benefits
Annual salary up to $105,200 (commensurate with experience) and includes full eligibility to generous UC benefits plan.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
