Departmental Overview
Campus Shared Services (CSS) ? a division of the UC Berkeley Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration ? provides reliable, high-quality administrative support to faculty, academics, staff, student employees, and retirees in support of the UC Berkeley mission of teaching, research, and public service.
CSS provides services in the areas of Business and Financial Services, Human Resources/ Academic Personnel Support, Information Technology, and Research Administration to nearly all campus units.
Administers and communicates the University's employee Benefits and Leaves programs which may include subject matter areas in any combination of retirement and savings, health and welfare and/or Benefits and Leaves administration.
Provides general information on entire scope of Benefits and Leaves packages, eligibility rules, enrollment information, basic use of the At Your Service website, plan literature and forms usage.
Learns to resolve Benefits and Leaves-related questions by applying Benefits and Leaves policies and procedures.
Provides technical counseling, and problem resolution ranging from routine to somewhat complex, in assigned area(s) upon request, to faculty and staff who need to weigh all options and aspects of their Benefits and Leaves, including advising faculty and staff on the impacts of various ongoing scenarios;
Manages claims and cases in assigned subject matter areas
May provide in-depth research on a variety of Benefits and Leaves-related issues and problems; consolidates information from a variety of sources, offices, and employees in a written summary; may recommend options for possible resolution.
As requested, maintain data and statistics on Benefits and Leaves programs
Influences and shapes employee Benefits and Leaves programs. Reviews UCOP draft communications and literature, and provides feedback and suggestions
Provides direction to campus HR Administrators in assigned subject matter areas.
Provide general guidance regarding the impact on Benefits and Leaves of changes in employment status such as leave of absence, return to work, separation, and death.
Provide specialized technical and procedural information in subject-matter area as it relates to the administration of Benefits and Leaves on the campus.
Act as liaison between campus employees, campus departments, Office of the President, Academic Personnel, Payroll and Fidelity Retirement Services in resolving a variety of issues
Coordinates with other campus programs as needed
Participates in unit development and delivery of programs; may make recommendations in developing and/or revising programs, works in concert with other team members in delivering programs through various internal (counseling and customer service) and external (written communications and presentations to both departments as well as faculty and staff) channels
Coordinates with other team members in all logistical aspects of presentation provision.
May develop recommendations for internal procedures and updates to internal cover letters and checklists;
May assist in developing implementation plans
May assist is developing and delivering presentations and workshops
Analyzes circumstances and makes recommendations regarding procedures and policies relating to compliance pursuant to federal and state requirements
Follows defined employee benefit practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers and recommendations can be obtained.
Ensures compliance with applicable legislation and policy on case by case basis.
As needed, reviews, researches and acts on various reports
Training and Development
Required Qualifications
Knows basic employee Benefits functions and can provide information regarding employee programs to address routine situations
Acquiring analytical skills to learn how work may impact other areas, conduct and develop recommendations
Demonstrates ability to prioritize work, works in an efficient and organized manner and shows problem solving skills.
Demonstrates effective writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
May have group presentation and/or project management skills
Working knowledge of business software and various systems used for benefits, HR data entry and payroll
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism; conducts business in accordance with policies governed by legislations such as COBRA and HIPAA;
Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with internal, campuswide and systemwide colleagues; Works in a collaborative, collegial manner with others across the organization to prioritize and complete multiple assignments on time.

Knowledge of functional areas within Benefits & Leaves
Salary & Benefits
This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Hourly pay range, depending on experience is between $22.79 - $25.56 per hour.

Other Information
This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
