Payroll Specialist

We are currently seeking an Accounting Specialist within Payroll / AP for a high growth successfull professional services company in the East Bay. This company is currently expanding the group and looking for someone to help with processing payroll and also taking care of some accounting functions for the company. Successful candidates will have either an AS or BS in Accounting, finance, economics, etc. and a couple years of payroll experience. Great communication skills and ability to partner cross functionally would be great.
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely processing of payroll. This position will account for multiple entities weekly and bi-weekly payrolls, including payment, collection of timesheets and reconciliation of benefits. Preferred candidate will have strong analytical and organization skills, be detail-oriented and self-motivated with 2+ years' experience processing payroll, and prior experience with project based accounting and administration.
Job Duties:
Prepare weekly and monthly certified payrolls
Accurately prepare and process hourly and salaried weekly and bi-weekly payrolls
Update fringe statements and calculate prevailing wage deltas
Process Multistate jurisdiction payroll
Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits
Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
Perform compliances for unclaimed property payroll checks (stop payments or adj. payrolls)
Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary(W-2, W-2c, etc)
Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
Entering of new hires, employee changes and voluntary deductions in Vision
In depth knowledge of wage and hour laws specific to prevailing wage
Audit biweekly payroll and prepare the payroll journal
Provide customer service to employees: in the area of pay and taxes as they relate to their pay Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed

Effective written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team involving staff, clients and outside agencies
Strong problem-solving skills, including reconciliation and analysis of accounts receivable accounts
Strong organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize activities and work with limited supervision
Results oriented and able to complete tasks on deadline
Ability to make good decisions using sound, professional judgment
Detail oriented, positive professional attitude

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
