Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has opening for Research Associate- East Asia/China Environmental and Energy Economist in Berkeley, CA. Conduct research and economic analysis related to environmental protection and development, implementation, and assessment of energy efficiency policies and programs in China. Assess the costs and benefits of various activities, policies or regulations that affect the environment. Provide technical assistance to Chinese partners through benchmarking with international best practices, training, and capacity building. Collect and analyze data to compare the environmental implication. Collect and analyze data for research on the use of energy-efficient technologies in China and information on energy-efficiency programs in China and around the world in written reports, to identify common and key elements of establishing and implementing these programs. Collect data from a variety of sources, making spreadsheets for data calculations, data comparison, and evaluating data to ensure they are properly sourced, categorized and updated. Under direction of scientific staff, understand and interpret data for application to research efforts and perform analysis of data as assigned. Publish results for in peer-reviewed publications. Utilizes graduate-level research and analysis skills.
Employer will accept Masters degree in Economics, Environmental Economics or East Asian Studies with concentration in energy/environmental and/or economic analysis/public policy. Education or experience must include:
1. Compile and analyze research data in Chinese Mandarin and English accurately; create databases and spreadsheets, charts, viewgraphs and other presentation materials;
2. Interdisciplinary research and analysis skills including understanding of sociology, political science, economics, mathematics, and history;
3. Evaluation and interpretation of Chinese government documents using Chinese Mandarin skills;
4. Write, edit, translate and proofread technical and governmental documents in Chinese and English; and
5. MS Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and MS Word.
Experience may be gained concurrently. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
