Position
Summary:
The Resident Services department provides individualized services and community programs that build skills, create connections, and bring opportunities that address inequity to make meaningful impact on the lives of SAHA's residents and the surrounding community.
An initiator and collaborator, the Volunteer and Events Coordinator builds and maintains ongoing positive and supportive working relationships with volunteers, colleagues, community organizations, and residents to fulfill SAHA's mission.
In this role, the Volunteer and Events Coordinator is responsible for the management of SAHA's Volunteer Program's day-to-day operations, including recruitment, placement, training, and retention of volunteers for SAHA's programs and events.
Additionally, the Volunteer and Events Coordinator (VEC) works closely with the Community Engagement Manager in planning and executing one-time events and special projects.
Activities must reflect and celebrate the diversity of our housing communities and neighborhoods, with special attention to the needs of seniors, families, people with disabilities or special needs, non-English speakers and other target populations.

This position will work at a SAHA's Main Office in Berkeley.

Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, or related field, or equivalent experience, is preferred.
One to two years related experience working with seniors or individuals with special needs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have the ability to maintain professional boundaries, including exercising objectivity and confidentiality, while building trusting relationships with residents and staff.
Excellent written and oral communication required.
Additionally, ability to speak other languages such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi, Russian or Spanish is a plus.
Must have excellent customer service, negotiation and communication skills.
Strong computer skills, including ability to easily navigate the internet, use Outlook, create Word and Excel documents, and work with a web based database.
Must be familiar with community resources or have the ability to acquire those resources and become familiar.
Must be sensitive to the needs and concerns of residents and their families.
Must have experience and ability to work positively within a multi cultural team environment.
Must be able to exercise good judgment and common sense, based on analysis, evaluation, and risk assessment in determining what to handle without help, and when to ask for guidance or help in prioritizing from supervisor.
Must have creativity and an ability to adjust to change.
Must have community networking skills, knowledge of civic engagement and intergenerational and activities programming a plus.
Must have basic math abilities with the ability to manage a budget.
Certifications or Licenses:
None.
Please note, if using a personal vehicle to travel for business purposes, proof of valid Driver's License and insurance is required to be eligible for mileage reimbursement.
Physical Demands:
Simple grasping and fine manipulation, sitting at a desk while using a computer, and using a telephone for extended periods of time.
Intermittently twisting to reach objects near the desk, standing, walking, bending reaching, using a computer, and occasionally lifting or moving objects which may weigh up to 35 pounds.
Work Environment:
This job is primarily conducted in an office environment where noise and temperature variations are minimal and casual business attire is required.
Some positions require occasional driving whereby exposure to fumes, dust, and other environmental elements may occur in rare circumstances.
Must be able to work under time demands and remain calm and professional with a wide variety of personalities.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
